Julia Ormio osallistui Kielissä Rolex European Cupin avajaisiin. Hulppeiden seremonioiden jälkeen purjehdittiin ensimmäinen päivä mukavissa tuulissa Kielin edustalla. Ensimmäisen päivän jälkeen Jean Fabren moderni Yqeam II (ent. Fleur de Lys) johtaa kilpailua ylivoimaisesti, toisena GER 3 ja kolmantena Aun Japanista. Saksalaisten veneiden lisäksi kisassa on veneitä Japanista, Sveitsistä, Norjasta, Tanskasta ja Englannista. Rolex Cupiin osallistuu myös 12mR ja kutoset. Meidän kannattaa ehdottomasti jatkossa suunnata Kieliin. Saksalaiset lämpenivät Baltic Circuit-ajatuksesta ja ovat tulossa viimeistään 2013 Helsinkiin. Tulokset: 1) Yqeum II, Jean Fabre (SUI), 2) Aun, Yutaka Kobayashi (JAP),3) Anne Sophie, Hanns-Georg Klein (GER).

A smaller but active fleet will sail in Finland 2010 |

The actively sailing/racing domestic fleet this summer: Sagitta, Naja, Vågspel, will be extended by Birgit from Sweden and Astra II from Russia. We will be accompanied by Andromeda from Sweden in the Hanko Regatta in early July. Katrina will join the fleet in August. Due to several unrelated circumstances the Finnish 8 metre fleet is diminished this season. Sphinx is out of the game this summer due to legal complications, Lara is waiting for major repairts, Windy is still undergoing cosmetic reconstructive surgery rand Tamara and Silja will not take part in any of the races. Iroquois will not participate in Hanko and probably not during the rest of the season either. And as the owner of Allegro, Peter Löfgren, is fighting a war against the oilspills in the Mexican Gulf, Allegro will probably stay decomissioned this summer too.
The sixes will more than make up for the no shows in the eight metre fleet this summer. 20 sixes in the RRegatta in mid June with and 21 sixes are participating in thge Helsinki regatta. Huge lineups to be expected later this season as well.

Neljä kasia kamppaili ESF:n järjestämässä RRegattassa. Birgit, Sagitta ja Vågspel päätyivät tasapistein - jokaisella oli yksi voitto, kakkossija ja kolmossija. Viimeinen startti ratkaisi ja Birgit, Timo Saalastin kipparoimana voitti kisan, Sagitta / Mikke Stelander ja Vågspel / Matti Rajalan tulivat kakkoseksi ja kolmoseksi. Naja kolaroi kutosen Merenneidon kanssa ja joutui keskeyttämään. RRegatassa oli ennätysmäärä odsallistujia: Peräti 20 kutosta oli ilmottautunut. Fridolin voitti ylivoimaisesti. Seitsemän vahvan vitoskilpailun voitti Röde Orm. RRegatasta on kehittynyt ehdoton huipputapahtuma erinomaisine järjestelyineen, juhlineen ja osallistujamäärineen. Toivottavasti kasien osaanotto ensi kaudella on mittavampi.

HSS CYC Launches a New Classic Regatta |

A new classic regatta - The Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte Baltic Classic Master Cup - is organized in Helsinki on August the 13th by HSS Classic Yacht Committee. The regatta is a part of the Baltic Classic Circuit. HSS CYC promotes the series by launching the new regatta a day prior to the Viapori Cup - also a regatta in the Circuit.
The regatta is organized in co-operation with the Scandinavian Classic Yacht Trust - SCYT. The mission of the Trust is to make sure classic yachts are sailed and seen. We, the CYC and the SCYT, believe this is the best way to make the yachts desired and preserved as part of our cultural heritage.
The Baltic Classic Circuit, was announced earlier this year for the Northern Baltic region. The series is based on the new tailor made Baltic handicap rule for classic yachts.
The HSS organized Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte Baltic Classic Master Cup Helsinki 2010 regatta will consist of racing on a “classical” era Olympic triangular courses. The race course will be located south of Helsinki and celebrations and evening events at the HSS Skifferholmen harbor and the HSS restaurant.
The next morning after the HSS organized regatta the participating yachts will be leaving from the HSS Skifferholmen harbor to the start line on the SuPS organized Viapori Cup, the next event of the consecutive regattas with the next celebrations.
All the larger visiting international yachts (i.e. SK 95, SK 120, SK 150 and 10mR’s) will be mooring at the HSS harbor before and after the both regatta days. A tender boat will be arranged for crews of these yachts to Viapori Cup evening celebrations.

Dear IEMA members and friends,
I am proud to confirm that Ms Julia Ormio, the President of the Finnish 8 Metre Association, has accepted to become the next secretary of IEMA, to be confirmed at the next AGM. Julia Ormio (40 years of age) is the captain and owner of Sherman Hoyt design Lara (FIN 10), who is the current Finnish champion. Ms Ormio sails in the class since 1987 in her father's boats. In 2000 Julia took over Lara from her father. In addition to 8 mR's she raced in other classes from dinghies to maxis and sailed professionally on big yachts in the Mediterranean and Caribbean in the 90's.
Ms Ormio has been the Class President of the Finnish Eight Metre Association since 2006. In this position she has actively promoted the 8 mR Class in the Baltic area, including organizing a regatta in Tallinn Estonia in 2007. Ms Ormio works as a lawyer for a multinational company and lives in Helsinki with her husband Petteri and two children Mainio and Ellen, who are also active 8 metre sailors.
Julia has the full support of our friend and long-time secretary John Lammerts van Bueren.
